Successful chef got his start at Career & Tech

Joe Maloney has enjoyed a fascinating and fast-rising career in culinary arts. As a young man out of college, he spent his winters in Florida and his summers in New Hampshire, working at country clubs, hotels and resorts. By age 26, he landed his first executive chef's job. Since then, he has taken onever more prestigious positions.

Today, at age 45, Joe Maloney is executive chef at Rensselaerville Institute, a popular conference center outside Albany with a reputation for fine dining. "I have a lot of creative freedom in this job," he said, noting that he likes being able to develop a different menu every day.

Chef Maloney has many good memories of Career & Tech but most notably of his teacher, Chef Anders Faltskog. "He seemed larger than life, and he gave us a really good grounding in the basics. To this day, I have never worked with a better chef than him."

Named 1997 Capital Region Chef of the Year, Chef Maloney has earned similar accolades from his colleagues. Chef Maloney is also an alumnus of Shaker High School in the North Colonie School District.
