Lodging Management Program

The Lodging Management Program (LMP) at the Capital Region Career & Technical School is a one-year program for high school juniors or seniors seeking careers in the management or operation of resorts, hotels, motels, casinos, theme parks, and other, diverse businesses. Students gain hands-on, real-world knowledge, learning both on campus and at area businesses. They also earn college credit and may earn high school credit for integrated English and/or math.

The Lodging Management Program was developed by the American Hotel & Lodging Association and is supported by the NYS Hospitality & Tourism Association (NYSHTA), allowing students to earn national certification as Certified Rooms Division Specialists. To achieve certification, students must complete 160 hours during the school year or during the summer at a NYSHTA-member property and successfully complete Year One and Year Two of the national LMP exam.

Students who complete the Lodging Management Program are well prepared for success in the educational and employment arenas. Juniors completing Lodging Management may continue their studies through Career & Tech programs such as Culinary Arts & Hospitality Technology or International Virtual Business. Several college articulation agreements provide post-high school opportunities.

Seniors completing Lodging Management may continue their studies at the college level at two- or four-year postsecondary programs or enter higher level, managerial positions in the field.

Johnson & Wales University: 4.5 trimester credits

14 college articulation agreements throughout the U.S. at other 2- and 4-year schools

Prerequisites:
- On target to complete11th grade requirements so student can enroll as a senior, or completion of year one of Culinary Arts & Hospitality as a junior.
Overall grade point average of 80 or higher.
Record of positive attendance and behavior.
Ability to work well with others in a professional environment.
Completion of program application.

Professional requirements:
Business attire (tie and dress shirt, pants and shoes for men; dress pants or skirt and shoes for women)
Chef and dining room uniform

Portfolio:
Students create a portfolio for presentation to teachers, peers, administrators and/or industry professionals. The portfolio includes employability information and exemplary work in communication and technical skills which the student has created during the school year.

Lodging Management Program students:

• Can earn valuable, national certification.
• Gain real-world experience through job shadowing and paid summer internships.
• Learn alongside peers who share their interests and dreams.
• Apply academics within the context of something they enjoy.
• Experience the world of lodging and hospitality
hands-on at area businesses.
• Are informed about scholarship opportunities and
options for further study and professional growth.
