Career & Tech’s Industrial Heavy Equipment Technology program prepares students to operate earth-moving equipment such as bulldozers, wheel loaders, backhoes, excavators, graders and skid steers. Students also learn about workplace safety, management, project layout, cost estimation and troubleshooting. Internships with contractors, highway departments and other employers will be offered to qualifying second-year students.

Students can earn credit for academics taught within the context of their career programs. During year one of Industrial Heavy Equipment Operation, students earn credit for integrated math. During year two, they earn credit for integrated English.

The Industrial Heavy Equipment Technology curriculum follows standards set by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) for heavy equipment operations. Students age 18 and older may also prepare to test for a New York State Commercial Drivers License, Class B.
