Global Fashion
Studies
New York has long been the center of the fashion,
apparel and accessories industries. Global Fashion Studies prepares
students for careers and higher education in these exciting and
ever-changing fields. In this two-year program, students learn about
garment theory, textiles, manufacturing, sales and promotion, and
career and college opportunities.
Global Fashion Studies year one focuses on
merchandising, and year two focuses on marketing and retailing
including mastery of skill standards set by the National Retail
Federation.
Students learn through specialized software,
hands-on projects, lectures and guest speakers, videos, field trips,
work-based learning experiences such as job shadowing and
internships, and community service.
Through a year-long entrepreneurship project,
students work together to design a product, conduct market research
and produce and sell their creations. They also create a
professional portfolio showcasing their best work.
After completing Global Fashion Studies, students
may enter the workforce or advance their education at 2- or 4-year
colleges such as The Laboratory Institute of Merchandising and
Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan and the Fashion
Institute of Design & Merchandising in California.

Fashion students in London '06!
The world may be shrinking, but the amount of knowledge needed to
succeed is not. Learning in other countries enriches students
educationally, socially and culturally. Career & Tech's Fashion Merchandising and Retail Management classes
traveled to London in February 2006 and documented their experiences
photographically.
See their PowerPoint.
Fashion students in Paris '05!
After much fund raising and lots of preparation, Fashion
Merchandising / Retail Management students and their teacher, Ms.
Hicks, went to Paris, one of
the world's fashion capitals, over the February 2005 break. View a
PowerPoint
photo show of their trip. Plans are in the works for next
year's international study trip!
