112 grads of Adult PN program will meet the
rising call for nurses
June is a capstone month for those enrolled in
Career & Tech's rigorous Practical Nursing for Adult Students
program. Some studied full-time for 10 months, others part-time for
a year and a half, but all 112 of the students earned their places
of honor on Proctor's Theatre stage at a June 28 graduation
ceremony. Each completed 1100 hours of classroom and clinical
instruction required by New York State and became eligible to test
for licensure. Amid the caps, pins and diplomas, 15 special awards
were bestowed, honoring excellence and achievement. In the photo

Services Dr. Kathryn Gerbino congratulates Deborah Blanchard for
achieving perfect attendance.
Like Career &
Tech's high school-age students, the adult Practical Nursing Class
of 2007 reflected a wide range of cultural backgrounds, ages and
interests; brought enthusiasm and energy to campus; and helped to
make Career & Tech a dynamic and exciting place to learn and grow.
Student Gary Hemerding
addressed his fellow graduates at the Adult Practical Nursing
ceremony. "It was not an easy road, taking into consideration our
complex lives of jobs, spouses, children, rent, mortgages, utility
and credit card bills, and millions of other challenges," he
related. "But we made it." Hemerding is changing careers from law
enforcement to nursing.
