She recognizes her teacher, Ms. D'Alessandro, as well

Lodging Management and full-day Career & Tech student Elizabeth Stalker of Ravena was named 2006 Capital Region Scholar for our school for the Business/Education Partnership Scholars' Recognition Program. Elizabeth was honored along with her teacher, Christine D'Alessandro, at an awards dinner and banquet in late April. Stalker was formally recognized for outstanding scholastic achievement, leadership and service to her school and community.

"Elizabeth is in the Lodging Management Program, where she is an excellent student," said D'Alessandro. "Elizabeth and a team of three fellow students won first place in the New York State Lodging Management Competition in Cooperstown in February and second place in the National Lodging Management Competition in Orlando, FL, in April."

Stalker was also nominated this year for the New York State Vanguard Award for students enrolled in career programs non-traditional to their gender, according to D'Alessandro.

"During her junior year, Elizabeth earned National Restaurant Association ServSafe Certification while a Culinary Arts student," she continued. "Elizabeth has worked hard to get where she is today, and her success is measured by her commitment to her career."

Stalker, who will graduate in June, has been accepted at Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte, N.C., where she will major in Hotel Management. A successful student, Stalker will be funding part of her higher education through scholarships she's earned while enrolled in the Career & Technical School's Lodging Management program. Stalker said that her career goal is to "some day own my own hotel chain."

About her Lodging Management teacher, Stalker noted, "Ms. D'Alessandro has always inspired me to do my best. She has never allowed me to think negatively about anything I did. Instead, she provided opportunities to grow as a professional."

D'Alessandro has been honored by the Scholars' Recognition Program eight times.

The Business/Education Partnership Scholars' Recognition Program was established in 1987 by the Golub Corp. and the University at Albany and is sponsored by a number of local businesses and educational institutions. The program annually recognizes outstanding seniors at public, private, parochial and BOCES schools in an 11-county radius. The students, in turn, identify the teacher who has had the most influence on him or her. Scholars, their parents and their teachers are honored at a dinner. along with teachers who have been named several times.
